I
have always been big built and thought it was due to my genetics, same old
story. Thinking I take after all the others in my family and that I have as
much chance in achieving a six pack as winning the lottery!
The Only weight training equipment I had ever seen was in the gym when I
tagged along with my father at the age of 9, and watched him and all the
other big guys huffing and puffing and pushing out pounds and pounds of
weights, it was the sort of gym that smelt of real sweat, hot, stuffy, hard
to breath yet all the guys and girls were huge, motivated and trained hard
and wanted to be the Mr Universe that they always dreamt about.
It was not until the age of 26 that myself and a colleague of mine started
at a gym in a near by neighbourhood, there were a couple of regular guys in
there, once again big, lean and had even competed here in the UK, I idolized
these chaps and thought wouldn't it be great to be big, for once in my life
I would be noticed, so me and my friend started going regularly on a weekly
basis, yes, we were pushing little piddly weights to start with, but over a
period of 24 months I eventually moved onto the big weights, bulked up in
the region of 24Lbs, now this was not 24Lbs of pure muscle, I had done no
cardio, had a sweet tooth so eat all sorts food containing high calories,
but all the bulk was mainly fat, I had muscle there but in combination with
the fat it gave me that big appearance, only problem was that the average
guy or girl would look at me and think that this was my body that I had
grown up to have, they thought that I had done no training whatsoever.
I
even got the name ‘Tubby’ by all my close friends in and out of the work
place.
Yes it was easy building up to this, eating two whole chickens and six eggs
a day, consuming about 3,500 – 4,000 Kcal per day, drunk whey powders till
they were pouring out of my ears, but all along I had no satisfaction as not
once did someone say "is all that down to training in the gym?".
Now,
I know I was no expert, that I was not dedicated to being all pure muscle
and looking like the guys in the magazines, but I had tried, spent money on
supplements/magazines etc. Then one summer on holiday, I saw a guy walk down
the beach ripped to shreds, he must of had about 5 or 6% body fat on him,
his Abs were just pushing through and looked sensational.
As
he walked down the beach everyone turned round, not only the women, but the
guys too, yes we all do it, we don't admit to it but in the corner of our
eye's we do look and think you ‘damn, that guys in great shape’, yes
it’s probably jealousy, but hey, the guy worked hard for it so you have to
give him some credit, at this point I decided to shred that fat off, get a
six pack, and get those looks on the beach by all.
