START POSITION - The first half of this exercise is performed the same as a crunch.

MID/FINISH POSITION

Choose the position of your hands and arms according to your abdominal strength. The closer your hands are to your head, the more difficult sit-ups become. As a beginner, rest your hands over your chest as shown in the video. When you get strong, you can cross your arms across your chest or behind the head. After you reach a 45 degree angle the hip flexors take over as the abs cannot contract anymore, therefore the crunch is the better choice for targeting the uppers.
