QUESTION & ANSWER WITH RICKY GONZALEZ

Hey man what is your opinion on carb cutting ??? do you have sort of an outline on how to do this??

Ricky's Answer

I think carb cutting is great, and it's essential for getting cut up. 2 times when you should definitely cut carbs is when your trying to carb deplete about a week before a bodybuilding contest, before carb loading back up again to give you that full, hard and shredded look on stage, if you don't compete you won't have to worry about carb depleting/loading, and when you hit a plateau and you can't lose and more weight (fat weight). As far as the outline goes, there isn't one. You just have to look at your body in the mirror, take a body fat test, or see how you feel. For example, lets say you're gonna diet down for 14 weeks. On the first 2 weeks of your diet you eat 200gm of carbs a day and at the end of 2 weeks you lose 10lb and you feel good and look better than when you started. This is great, when things work don't change anything. After 1 more week of 200gm of carbs a day you hit a plateau and your physique doesn't change, then it's time to cut carbs. Drop down 30gm and stick with 170gm of carbs a day for a week and see what happens. If you lose more weight and your physiques starts looking leaner in the mirror, then just keep going on 170gm of carbs until you hit another plateau, then it's time to cut carbs again. Continue checking your weight, body fat percentage, and just look in the mirror to check for improvements over the remainder of the 14 weeks. You just have to play things by ear. Some people can diet down on 200gm of carbs for 10 weeks straight and improve every week, others may not. Whenever I diet for a show, I just use the mirror as my main guide to my progress. If I look leaner, then I stick with the amount of carbs I'm eating until I hit a plateau. If I'm not getting any leaner, then I know it's time to cut carbs again or add more cardio. Adding extra cardio work will also help you break through a plateau if you don't feel like cutting carbs further. After a while, you will learn how your body works. You will know when and how many gm of carbs you need to eat to get more cut up.

Good luck and train hard!!
