We're always
receiving new products from various nutritional supplement companies and this
week we have 15 new protein/energy bars to try.
Protein Bars
are a great nutritional snack if you've got a busy schedule and no time to prepare food, but you
have to be very careful as not all these bars have the best nutrients and in
some cases you'd be better off to eat a Candy Bar! We've looked over the 15 Bars
we have on review here and scored them on both their nutritional content and
taste, so check out our findings below.

1)
EAS Myoplex Deluxe
Bar
– 30g protein, 4.5g sat fat, 330 cals
A
large size bar that would be suitable as a meal replacement, pre
or post weight training snack. It has a soft caramel and chewy
nougat center, and for a peanut butter flavored bar, had a very
pleasant taste, packed with nutrients!! With the high protein
content this bar comes highly recommended.
[Choc Peanut Butter & Choc Peanut Caramel Tested]

2) Oat-Rageous – 22g protein, 3.5g sat fat, 340 cals
A bigger sized bar that
would be suitable as a meal replacement, pre or post weight
training snack. We tasted the peanut butter flavored bar which
proved very tasty, packed with oats too, gave a real nice
texture and flavor. Nutritionally, this is a sound bar, great
choice. Highly Recommended.
[Peanut Butter & Cinnamon Raisin Tested]
3)
Promax Bar - 20g protein,6g sat fat, 290 cals
An average sized bar
that would be suitable as a pre-post workout snack for those who
weight train or engage in intense physical activity. This bar
is full of flavor and very chewy. I had this thirty minutes
before my weights workout and noticed a good boost in energy
levels. Another great choice.
[Cinnamon Raisin & Caramel Peanut Tested]

4)
Pure Omega 3 Protein Bar – 20g protein, 4g fat, 200 cals
Make sure you keep this
one refrigerated or you’ll never get it out the wrapper! It’s
very sticky unless kept chilled. Despite this, the Pure Protein
Bar is a good all-rounder, especially in terms of its nutritional
content, full of healthy fat, zero saturated fat! And has plenty
of fiber. Ok, it’s not the most tasty bar on offer, but the
Peanut Butter taste does still come through. Good Choice.
[Peanut Butter Bar Tested]

5)
Chef Jay's
Tri-o-plex – 30g protein, 2g sat fat, 440 cals
A very large bar!! that
would be suitable as a meal replacement for those looking to
gain muscle mass. It’s a very densely packed bar and if you ate
the whole thing you might want to have lay down for a while!!
Not the best tasting bar, but the high protein content keeps
this bar near the top of the list.
[Peanut Butter Banana, Cinnamon Raisin Roll Tested]

6)
Labrada Lean Body
Fruit
Crunch – 20g protein, 7g sat fat, 315 cals
A bigger size bar that
would be suitable a meal replacement, pre-post workout meal. It
has a crunchy layer topped with a layer of very strong tasting
fruit jam. The fruit layer has an overpowering although not
unpleasant taste and the bar will have you picking bits out of
your teeth. Not the best bar tested but still recommended.
[Raspberry Bar Tested]
7)
Zone Perfect – 15g protein, 4g sat fat, 210 cals
An average sized bar
with reasonable taste, if with a slightly sickly aftertaste,
that would be suitable as a post workout snack, for those on a
weight/fat loss plan.
[Peanut Toffee & Chocolate Coconut Crunch Tested]

8)
Doctors Carbrite Diet (sugar free) – 20g protein, 1.5g sat fat,
190 cals
We’ve always been big
fans of the CarbRite Bars and they continue to be a good all
round choice, with No added Sugar, 20g of protein and 4g carbs,
what more could you want. Recommended.
[Lemon Meringue, Cinnamon Bun & Banana Nut Tested]

9)
Myoplex Lite – 15g protein, 2.5g sat fat, 190 cals
An average sized chewy
bar that would be suitable as a post workout snack for those on
a weight/fat loss plan. It has a pleasant cinnamon taste
although the taste is a little bit too strong and you will still
be able to taste it some time after eating the bar. Very
similar to a cereal bar.
[Peanut Butter Caramel Crisp & Cinnamon Roll Tested]
10) ISS Oh Yeah! Natural – 15g protein, 1.5g sat fat, 200 cals
An average sized bar
with a good crunch that would be suitable as a post
or
pre workout
snack for those on a weight/fat loss plan. The crunchy peanut
taste is very pleasing and overall a nice little snack
bar that delivers some protein.
[Peanut Butter Tested]

11) Eat Well Be Well (Sugar Free) – 5g protein, 2g sat fat, 120
cals
A very small bar, but
great as a quick snack or to add with a meal. Although the low
protein value is disappointing, it does offer some clean carbs
and fiber and it’s low calorie! A very chewy bar, but even with
the choc chips some would find this a little bland, but there is
something we really liked about this bar, it tastes and is very
healthy and you can have one or two of these and not feel guilty!
Recommended. [Peanut Butter
Chocolate Chip Tested]
12) Atkins Advantage
Caramel 11g protein, 3.5g sat fat, 150 cals
An average sized bar
with a low protein content, that would be suitable as a post
workout snack for those on a weight loss plan. It is a nougat
centered bar with a quite bland taste and a slightly bitter
after taste. [Caramel Bar
Tested]
13) Labrada Lean Body
Gold – 30g protein, 6g sat fat, 325 cals
Caramel Almond Fudge - A
bigger size bar, that would be suitable as a meal replacement,
for hard weight training individuals or as a treat for dieters.
It is a chewy nougat bar with an initially bland taste, but
still
quite satisfying. Also available is the Caramel Peanut,
which really is a delight, the taste is gorgeous, maybe a little
sticky and stodgy, but you’re not going to want to put this one
down. Only 7g net carbs in these bars which does make them a
good choice. Although we were not too keen on the Caramel Almond
Fudge, the Caramel Peanut is a real winner and rate it 8/10,
well worth a try! Note: Keep this one refrigerated!!

14) Optimum Nutrition Complete Protein Diet (sugar free) 20g
protein, 2g sat fat, 190 cals
An average sized bar
with a very chewy nougat center that would be suitable as a post
workout snack for those on the program. Taste wise it’s not a
high scorer, but as a quick and easy protein replacement it’s a
good choice. It’s got a good amount of protein and low carbs for
the size of the bar. Recommended.
[Peanut Butter Bar Tested]
15) PowerBar Performance
– 10g protein, 1g sat fat, 240 cals
As with the Omega 3 Bar
that came in 4th, it’s a very sticky bar if you don’t
keep it refrigerated. This bar is only ideal as a workout snack
and not good as a general protein bar.
[Peanut Butter Bar Tested]
