Question from Peter
Ricky, my name is Peter and I'm 17. I have been working my arms and they look defined, yet my legs are not a well built. I only have a barbell and 2 dumbells but plenty of weights. What simple exercises can I do to get tree trunks with only the equipment I currently have?
Ricky's Answer
Peter,
Tree trunks!! That's what I'm taking about, baby! I'm glad to hear that you haven't forgotten about your legs. They are very important and shouldn't be neglected. Now, let's get down to business. The main exercise that you can do for your quads are going to be squats. If you don't have a squat rack at your house to rack the bar on, you can hold the bar behind you. The way you would do this is by setting up the bar with the desired weight you want to squat, step in front of the bar so that the bar is behind you, squat down, pick the bar up, stand up straight, and start squatting. Another exercise that's great for your thighs and glutes are lunges. Use the dumbbells and do walking lunges, reverse lunges, or just plain old lunges stepping forward. Now, we tackle the hamstrings. Stiff-legged deadlifts are excellent for the hamstrings. Use can use a barbell or dumbbells for this exercise. For an extra stretch at the bottom, stand on top of a box. For your calves, you can do standing calf raises on a step or box. Just hold a dumbbell in one hand and with the other, hold yourself on to something so that you stay balanced. I'd suggest you do 5 sets of 8-12 reps each of the exercises I've mentioned above including a warm up set of 15-20 reps for each exercise.
Good Luck! Now, get to it and attack those wheels!
Train Hard,
