Advice to keep focused and
motivated with your workouts
Hi Vince,
first off let me say that my goal is to look like you when I am
40...actually you look WAY better than ANY of the guys I know at my age and
I am 28! My question is what kind of mental training can I do in case I
start to get bored with working out mainly when I don't feel like getting up
and running in the morning before breakfast. Also what are some tricks that
can keep me from levelling out at one certain weight because right now I am
kind of stuck in the 220 lb area. My goal is to get healthier and I am 5 ft
seven inches what would be a good weight for me to shoot for, I was thinking
175 I really want to get down to your percentage of body fat. Oh and just
one other quick question. Which brand of supplements would you recommend?
Thank you very much for your time. Keep up the good work you are a huge
inspiration to me. Jerry
Response from Vince
Jerry,
Thank you so much for
the compliment....I sincerely appreciate it, and I'm really excited that I
can inspire others.
You
asked a GREAT question, one that is so important to reaching a particular
physical goal and to continue even from there. Let me enlighten you for a
moment about how this all started for me back about 10+ years ago. I
remember reading something in a magazine where it said to have some sort
of image in mind as to what you wanted to look like in order to help reach
your goals with training. And, to continue focusing on that image every
single day and to not let anything deter you from that. Well, if you
remember.....not sure based on your age..haha...anyway, I remember way
back when I saw Marky Mark plastered all over billboards and in magazines
where he was constantly shirtless and I was blown away by how good he was
built. THAT was my first image that I kept in mind..in fact, I even cut a
small picture out of a magazine and kept it on my mirror at home so that
every day I would be reminded of what I wanted to accomplish
physically. Fast forward back in my 30's I felt like I just about reached
that point, but then after that I started setting my sights even higher
and wanted to look like some of the fitness models who grace the covers of
some of the popular magazines such as FitnessRX or Men's Fitness, etc...so
about 3 or 4 years ago I started playing around with my diet and was
determined to get a true "six pack". With determination and motivation I
feel like I again reached my goal, but I constantly stay focused and
always continue pushing myself so that I can look as best as possible,
especially as I am working with the Sixpacknow folks, and having the
pleasure of talking to people like yourself.
So, my answer to you
Jerry is to do the same as I did....focus on a goal and keep working hard
to accomplish it. THAT will help you to get to the gym without debate.
You have to want it bad enough to make it a priority in your life to fit
in somehow. I know we are all busy with work, family, etc.... but for
myself, I limit my extraciricular activities to working out, so that I'm
not spending too much time away from my family. Sure, I can do lots of
other things, but fitness is really important to me...I've come to really
LOVE my workouts and staying in shape as I climb up there in
age. Truthfully, I really only have to workout 4x a week, no longer than
an hour each time....thats it!
As far as
supplements...most importantly I drink anywhere from 2-3 whey protein
shakes per day, every day. My protein of choice is Optimum Nutrition
Whey-double rich chocolate. I've been using that brand for the past 5 yrs
or so...I love it. Also, I take GNC Mega Men Sport multivitamin's. I
also take fat burners for a month or so off and on, but usually only
during the summer months when I want to stay a little more
tight. Currently, I've been using Jetfuel, by German American
Technologies. But, others are also good, such as Redline, RippedFuel
Extreme, Lipo6, Hydroxycut, etc... Plus, I take Glucosamine and Fish Oil
for my joints...helps keep them lubricated and also the fish oil is
good for your cardiovascular system.
I hope this all
helps....and best of luck to you Jerry.....You can do it! Keep me posted
on your accomplishments.
Thanks,
Vince
