Liquid Gold a.k.a. Green Tea

The great and eminent Benjamin Franklin once said, “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy” and it was the witty and intelligent …hmmm???…what’s his name I forget…hmmm??? That fitness writer dude….hmmm?? Oh Ross Edgley, haha, that said, “Green tea is proof that God loves us and wants us to be healthy.” Both great quotes that both hold some truth, allow me to elaborate:

I’m not going to lie; drinking alcohol (in moderation may I add) does have its benefits. For example men the world over will agree, chatting to a girl you like is hard at the best of times but sometimes our little bottled liquid friend, along with some ‘Dutch Courage’ can help. Wooing methods of the drunken male vary in technique however are intended to achieve the same result, a females phone number. Commonly used drunken methods include the:

1)      ‘My judgement is impaired however I’m pretty sure I look like Justin Timberlake when dancing’ Approach and the

2)      ‘My mouth is slightly numb however this silver tongued beast is going to work his linguistic magic on the ladies’ Approach

Gentleman…best of luck whichever method you adopt

Now regarding Green Tea, this stuff really is health in a tea bag for example the Journal of the National Cancer Institute in 1994 published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that “drinking green tea reduced the risk of oesophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly 60%.” It’s believed the compound epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a powerful anti-oxidant that not only inhibits the growth of cancer cells; it also kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. And if that’s not enough of a reason to put some of that liquid gold down your ‘pie hole,’ allow me to continue with just a few medical conditions that green tea will be helpful for:

• High cholesterol levels
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Cardiovascular disease
• Infection
• Impaired immune function
• Tooth decay

Now referring to Mr Franklins quote again, yet another bi-product of a drunken night out is the phenomenon that is the drunken phone call or text. Considered by many to be a negative aspect of drinking, I for one feel it is in fact a positive, why I hear you ask? Well humans, unlike animals, have this ability to bottle up feelings that can often be detrimental to our mental health. Alcohol deemed to be a ‘truth serum’ serves to combat this problem, and so the drunken text or phone call can often be a means to voice untold opinions that would have otherwise been bottled up. Ex-partners are text, ‘booty’ calls are rung and pizzas are ordered that your have no recollection sending for.

Now unfortunately green tea lacks this truth telling ability, but what it does have is the ability to make you look great on the beach, yes that’s right I jest your not. See it’s that same compound, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) that’s responsible for green tea’s cancer fighting properties that is also responsible for green teas thermogenic properties (fat burning.)

So in conclusion good people… stick some of that liquid gold down the hatch and enjoy both the health and aesthetic benefits green tea has to offer.
