Well I'm a 24yr old guy and have been going to the gym and keeping a diet on and off for the past year. The thing is I see the results very slowly and I loose all motivation but I really would like to get a six pack by next summer. I weigh 80kgs with about 14 - 15% body fat. Shall I try adding lean muscle to around 90kgs assuming a body fat of 16% and then cut down on the body fat next year? Any suggestions to reach my six pack goal by next summer?.  Clint

Hey Clint

Thanks for the question. I would first like to start off by saying that the motivation factors are a very common problem with many people.  A great way to help increase your motivation in the gym would be to get a workout partner.  See if you know anyone who would like to become workout buddies with you. This is a great for both of you guys to constantly push each other in the gym. I can tell you that if you do this you'll see a massive change in your motivation and this will considerably help with your muscle gains.  In response to the second part of your question, I feel that you should not increase your weight to around 90kgs.  I would work at trying to maximize fat loss while maintaining your lean muscle mass.  To do this, try to increase your cardiovascular activity to at least 40 minutes a day, or to start, every other day. Try to hit the weights as well, training on a 2 day on, 1 day off routine.  If you can superset certain exercises in your program, you will help create a better fat burning/muscle building environment in your body.

Hope this helps
