I really have to say genetics plays a
huge role in determining your body,
especially your abdominals. I have
always been naturally pretty lean,
and strangely enough I have been
using the same exercise routine and
methods that O developed 6+ years ago when I was only 14.
I keep the ab workouts very simple, I think the basic
moves work best, and that transends to all exercising
for me.
I basically do leg lifts for lower abs, then will lay on
my side and do sit ups for obliques and then do regular
sit ups for upper abs. i find its important to always
work upper abs last, since basically every other ab
exercise hits them as well. I like to throw in some sets
with the oblique nautilus machine sometimes, I find that
is a good way to change up the workout.
One last thing I find very significant is to always make
sure you are working the muscle when you are exercising
it. Form is so important and once you get that down you
can build a lot of quality muscle. I always push myself
to the absolute limit when I exercise, anybody who has
seen me lift can vouch for that. I give everything into
every set and consistently force myself beyond muscle
failure. you have to have a lot of internal motivation
to get into great shape.
As far as eating, I am only very strict when I am
cutting for competition, otherwise my diet is more
lenient, but I am able to stay around 195+lbs in the
off-season and keep a decent six pack (as far as
bodybuilders go). I eat 5 meals every day, for a total
of about 200-250g protein, 275-300g carbs and 70g fat
every day When cutting down to reveal abdominal
definition my carb intake does come down.
My
Top Five Ab Tips
Work abs with high reps, high sets
Make sure you feel them burn! quality reps each set
Work hard so you have no excuses for yourself, give
all you have every workout
don't get too fat in the off season or it will be
harder to get the ripped abs back
you have to feed your abs just like any other muscle
to make them grow but just make sure they don't get too
big (so do high reps/sets)
Good luck to you all,
Ian
