Debbie's Road to
Success

I currently only have
about 6 years of training under my belt. As I approach my 5th year of
competing, I still consider it a fun hobby or obsession as some would
call it. My day consists of commuting and working full time as a Sales
Assistant for a worldwide investment company, located in Sears Tower.
Yes, that's right, even after a 12 hour workday I find time to
workout. I have made health and fitness a way of life. I love it,
enjoy it and want to share it with others.
I have my Mother
and Father to thank for great genes I inherited. I grew up in
Highland, Indiana with two brothers Tim & Ron and considered
myself a tomboy. I haven't travelled too far from the nest and reside
in Schererville Indiana. Ron was seven years older than Tim & I
and at times we
were mistaken for twins. I always tried to play different sports, but
I am first to admit I was never very athletically inclined. Before
starting my freshman year in high school, I was diagnosed with
Scoliosis and put in a back brace for two years. Imagine the
excitement after winning two “Most Symmetrical” awards at my first
few competitions. Not bad for having an “S” shaped curved spine?
As I approached 30, my
bad habits of junk food and drinking, was catching up with me. I was
now buying size 14 jeans and weighing nearly 160 pounds. I needed a
change. I started dieting and working out in the spring of 1998. It
wasn't until spring of 1999 that I started a serious weight training
regimen under the supervision of Jim Hemminger. As my trainer at World
Gym, I could not of done any of this without him. He is a genius when
it comes to training, supplementation and especially nutrition.
I did my first
bodybuilding show June, 2001. NPC Natural Novice Show in Chicago
Heights Illinois was a very successful start. I took first place in
the women's open middleweight, the overall title and most symmetrical.
I was bitten by the bug and could not wait to step on stage again.
Winning was nice, but most importantly, I was blessed with many family
members and friends that cheered me on for the first time. I can't
begin to tell you how much that meant to me. After 16 weeks of
dieting, I was ready to indulge. After the show we celebrated at a
local Mexican restaurant with good food and my favorite, margaritas!!!
Just three short
years later, I can proudly say that I've been featured in Oxygen, Flex
and 2 issues of Iron Man Magazine. My biggest and most surprising win
came in August 2003 after I took first place in the middleweight class
at the Team Universe in New York City. The rest is history. I am
constantly trying to improve my physique through training and dieting
even while I’m in my “off-season”. I have recently acquired a
new trainer Abdul Wesolowski, a professional strongman competitor from
the Detroit area. Under his guidance, I am planning on doing three
National level shows and am looking forward to the 2005 season.
